Rencontres du Troisième type - Close Encounters of the Third Kind

I've always loved the teeny-tiny world of insects and other strange creatures that walk our earth. Insects, these strange aliens, with their shells, their antennaes and their stakhanovist-like social behaviours, live in the realms of macro-photographers and sci-fi fantasizing geeks. These pics are a little thought for Boulet and his fantasies of giant insects (yes, microscope photos of dust mites are a just awesome!) and to Vincent who was inspired by surreal and postmodern pics of flies with humongous eyes...

The photos Thomas Vignaud (who was in BC a couple of weeks ago for a visit) takes of his little friends the nudibranches, these psychedelic sea slugs, are amazing. Thomas is a marine biologist who is passionate about diving. He has a great eye for composing pictures and some of these were selected by Earthshots and by the National Geographic.

The variety and outstanding imagination of Mother Nature could easily satisfy all the strange dreams of the seekers of lost worlds!

Thank you for the wink, Elo. It's true I have a crush. I'm seriously considering macro photography...

[Ah dur, dur. ;-)]
