Ecouter de la poésie à Vancouver - Listening to poetry in Vancouver
Mon geek est en voyage, après un aller-retour express pour la France pour assister à un mariage d’amis, le voilà parti pour la semaine à Edmonton. Du coup, j’en profite pour sortir un maximum, traînant mon petit passager qui devient de plus en plus encombrant…
La semaine dernière j’ai donc enchaîné le théâtre, avec la très belle pièce Les Points Tournants, le ciné, avec un Persepolis qui ne m’a pas déçu, et un barbecue chez les Frenchies de l’Ambassade, histoire de planifier notre week-end de camping.
Cette semaine, outre les habituelles sorties piscine et yoga, j’ai pu dîner avec mes voisins Anglais (qui sont de retour d’Australie), j’irais boire un verre ce soir avec les participants de la French Meetup et camper sur la Sunshine Coast.
La semaine prochaine j’enchaîne sur une soirée poésie avec le poète Indran Amirthanayagam. Il fera une lecture publique de ses oeuvres au Robson Square Bookstore le 21 mai à partir de 19h00. Si vous êtes amateurs de jolis mots et de rencontres interculturelles, ne ratez pas Indran, qui s’en va par la suite prendre un poste au Pérou.
La semaine prochaine aura également lieu un symposium sur le changement et l’écologie: « Be the Change ». L’occasion pour moi de renouer avec mes vieilles passions et de rencontrer des gens qui pensent “out of the box” à des alternatives à notre mode de vie pour le moins peu durable.
Malgré ce que peuvent dire les mauvaises langues, il est possible de profiter d'une vie culturelle riche dans l'Ouest Canadien. J'en veux pour preuve les amis Elo et Mat qui se rendent maintenant régulièrement à l'Opéra ou l'exposition Vermeer-Rembrandt à la Vancouver Art Gallery, ou encore le festival de théâtre dédié à Shakespeare, Bard on the Beach, qui a lieu tous les étés..
Voilà de quoi me tenir occupée encore un peu ! Du coup le blog sera sûrement un peu en hibernation, avec le printemps j’ai davantage envie d’aller me dégourdir les jambes dehors que de rester à traîner sur la toile !
My geek is off traveling. After an expedited return trip to France to attend a wedding, he is now in Edmonton for a few days. So, I’ve been going out a lot, hauling around my large belly and its little passenger.
Last week was pretty busy with a play, Les Points Tournants, that was really amazing and a movie night for the screening of Persepolis. I was not disappointed, the movie was really quite good. I also found time to have a barbecue with some friends to prepare our weekend camping trip.
This week, apart from my usual swimming and yoga sessions, I had a lovely diner with my British neighbours (who are back from Australia) and tonight I will be heading out for drinks with the folks of the French language meetup before my camping weekend on the Sunshine Coast.
Next week will also be a busy week. On Thursday, I will be attending a poetry evening with the poet Indran Amirthanayagam. Indran will be reading some of his work at the UBC Robson Square bookstore at 07 pm. Don’t miss him if you have a taste for intercultural poetry. Indran will soon be leaving Vancouver for Peru.
Next week, I will also attend the Be The Change symposium on environmentalism and
change. A way for me to reconnect with my old passions !
Some will say it's hard to have a cultural life in Western Canada but that's just nasty talking. Our friends Elo and Mat go to the opera fairly regularly now, the Vancouver Art gallery is featuring a Rembrandt-Vermeer exhibit and Shakespeare will soon be back on our beach with the festival Bard on the Beach...
The blog will be in hibernation for a while. With spring I feel more like spending time outdoors than browsing the web !
